In its mission to follow customer needs seeking to improve their experience, Amazon presented three programs that strengthen its last mile, while boosting the economy of entrepreneurial communities and small and medium-sized businesses.

Diego Méndez de la Luz, general director of operations, mentioned that Amazon is made up of its infrastructure, people and the technology that is implemented in its operations, which allows it to deliver hundreds of thousands of packages, even in high seasons such as Hot Sale and El Buen Fin.

To do this, it has 11 shipping centers, where inventory is stored, orders are collected and packed; three logistics centers to consolidate cargo and 27 delivery stations to put packages on route, with a promise of same-day delivery in 10 cities, next day in 80 and in two days in the rest of the country.

“The last mile is the most interesting part because it is when we have direct contact with the customer and it is a great responsibility. From a logistical point of view, from the beginning our strategy has been to be as close to the client as possible, understanding the client and their needs is how we can design our network,” Diana Frances, general director of Última Milla, said in an interview.

He explained to T21 that in the last mile we no longer talk about supply chains, but rather about supply networks with multiple entrances and exits, so starting from the client backwards is how you can identify their needs to put a program that can give the best customer experience.

In this sense, in order to support entrepreneurs without experience in the logistics field, Amazon developed Delivery Service Partners (DSP) that offers 15 value-added services for entrepreneurs, among which financing for vehicles equipped with safety standards for driver and load, among others.

Likewise, the Hub Delivery Program (HUB DP) includes Amazon's logistics muscle to small businesses that have flexibility to receive and deliver packages in their community, which is why it expects to incorporate between 1,400 and 1,600 businesses in this program.

Finally, Amazon Flex includes individuals who have a private vehicle and need extra income to be part of the company's last mile, who Diana Frances commented that “they can help us at times of the year when that muscle is required.” additional to process the claim.”
