The corporate office sector in Mexico and in the world has been radically transformed in recent years due to various eventualities that have directly impacted it.
Although these events could be seen as threats that could jeopardize the continuity of the sector, they rather become a window of opportunity that the sector needs to evolve, adapt to the new global conditions and survive.
Undoubtedly, the main challenge for the office sector was the Covid-19 pandemic, which confined the entire workforce in Mexico and the world and "caused" companies and large corporations to seek ways to continue producing and maintaining operations, with your employees working remotely.
To date, remote work continues to provide important benefits to companies, both in economic terms and in terms of efficiency and productivity.

Another trend to the office sector is precisely the way in which the new generations conceive the idea of developing their activities.
Technological innovations, widely dominated by millennials and centennials, allow them to perform their functions perfectly from anywhere in the world, having internet networks and all the necessary digital tools at their fingertips. Digital natives find it increasingly unnecessary to stay in an office space for a long time.
These two factors explain why many organizations are redesigning their existing spaces to comply with the new work models. Technology plays a fundamental role in this process, as it allows for the generation of flexible spaces in which employees can feel comfortable performing their duties.
Flexibility is increasingly requested by millennial and centennial users, who are looking for work spaces that promote interaction, translating this phenomenon into efficiency and optimization of spaces for companies, which is achieved through smart offices redesigned with the insertion of flexible furniture, open workstations and redesign of spaces and common areas.
Another trend that predominates in this retrofitting of offices is the expansion of collaborative and outdoor work spaces, as well as the use of terraces and balconies.
It should be noted that previously, on average, 80% of the total area of a traditionally configured office was occupied by assigned places. Currently, this figure will change to 60 and 65%, giving way to flexible places and collaborative interaction, a reality observed by JLL in the main office markets of Latin America.

It is clear that the current global working conditions have transformed the concept of work as something we do and not as a place we go.
Therefore, a current challenge and one that the corporate office sector will face in the coming years will be to attract employees to innovative spaces that encourage creativity and productivity in a safe work environment.
The workforce in Mexico demands authentic and inclusive workplaces that guarantee models and offices that prioritize their needs as balanced human beings between their different roles and that they are not seen just as another employee.
