One million dollars invested by Enel to manage its 19 power plants
El Financiero | July 07, 2022 |

Enel México invested 1 million dollars in a multi-technology control center that allows it to monitor the generation of electricity from its 19 renewable energy plants from its corporate building located in Polanco, CDMX.

With this, the company seeks to take a new step in the digital era of renewable energy, by becoming the first private company in Mexico to control its operations centrally and remotely.

A room with two monitoring equipment and a dozen screens is enough for Enel México operators to supervise and control in real time the three hydroelectric plants, four solar plants and the twelve wind plants that the company has throughout the Mexican republic.

The teams at this control center have direct communication with the National Energy Control Center (Cenace), so they have all functions automated and speed up response times.

Daniela Fuentes, Head of Monitoring and Maintenance Schedule for Enel Green Power in Mexico, pointed out that Mexico is a pioneer in this type of control room, and that in the event of any contingency that could affect the CDMX headquarters, there is a center backup control at the Magdalena II solar plant located in the state of Tlaxcala.

Pablo Blanco, director of O&M and Tonino Parente, Head of improvement of O&M for Enel Green Power in Mexico, pointed out that, in 2021, the company will generate 6 thousand 179 GwH, which is equivalent to the electricity consumption of more than 2.7 million Mexican homes .

"We lead the country's renewable sector with the largest installed capacity in the market, around 19 percent of the national infrastructure," they stressed.

According to company data, thanks to the clean energy generation of Enel México, emissions of more than 4.5 million tons of carbon dioxide are avoided per year, which is equivalent to taking almost 1 million vehicles out of circulation per year.

Daniela Fuentes added that the company tries to anticipate possible risks, so they have developed a series of algorithms to determine if there are risks of fires or accidents.

"Using these algorithms, around 800,000 variables are analyzed, making it possible to better predict and act in less time in the face of any eventuality," he said.
