Strategic location and skilled labor attract automotive investment to Saltillo

Saltillo continues to be one of the markets in northern Mexico that has the best conditions to attract various companies, mainly from the automotive sector, that can continue advancing in their transition of products and processes towards the new trend of electromobility.

In statements made in June 2023, the State Economy Secretariat announced that in the first five months of the year they have confirmed the arrival of 39 investments made up of expansions or projects in the industrial, food, and automotive sectors, among others.

Ramos Arizpe has been the most active submarket, concentrating more than 90% of the gross demand in the first quarter of the year. The privileged geographical location, the existence of qualified labor and the entity's ability to train the necessary talent have been the key to boosting the industrial demand that drives the developers present in Saltillo in the construction of new projects.

By mid-June 2023, 477,000 square meters of industrial buildings are advancing, representing 9% of the total nationwide, according to figures reported by the Solili platform. This amount includes 65,000 square meters of new buildings that began construction between April and May 2023.

So far in the second quarter of 2023 alone, various automotive investments have been announced, among which the Asian companies HL Mando, Jiahua Chemical and Citic Dicastal stand out. Investments from the United States are also present, such as those carried out by the companies Lennox and Borgwarner.

The Korean firm HL Mando is also committed to Coahuila where it will invest 185.3 million dollars (mdd) for the opening of a second plant in the municipality of Arteaga. Currently, its plant is located in the Server Industrial Park and focuses on the manufacture of state-of-the-art braking systems on a land area of 105,000 square meters, to which they plan to add 102,000 square meters.

Jiahua Chemical also confirms the investment of 20 million dollars for the construction in Ramos Arizpe of its new plant that will start operating in 2024 and that will focus on producing polyurethane inputs to supply companies in the automotive industry in the country.

Another company of Chinese origin Citic Dicastal celebrated the opening of its new plant in the Santa María Industrial Park located in Coahuila, on a territorial extension of 200 thousand square meters where they estimate an inventor 100 million dollars where it is expected to produce the amount of three million wheels per anus.

The company of American origin, Lennox, dedicated to the manufacture of air conditioning systems, begins the construction of its fourth plant in Ramos Arizpe that will focus on the production of systems for the commercial sector. The plant will be located on the Chuy María Industrial Park, where it plans to invest 122.5 million dollars, a 7.5-hectare piece of land where an 80,000-square-meter building will be located.

Borgwarner, one of the most reliable Tier 1 companies in the world for the automotive sector, has invested the amount of 54 million dollars to improve its facilities in the Santa María Industrial Park, in Ramos Arizpe, reinforcing its electromobility processes.
