Even when merchandise shortages are on the horizon due to port saturation, Tijuana's maquiladora industry continues with positive growth figures in view of demand, so the market is expected to stabilize in mid-2022.
The above was explained by Lic. Armando Padilla Fitch, president of the Association of Industrialists of the Otay Table (AIMO), prior to the realization of the binational panel called "Baja Manufacturing".
The forum was attended by Barry Sedlik, president of California Business Ventures; Antonio Domínguez, vice president of Tecma; Alejandra Jaurena, plant manager at Schneider Tijuana; Héctor Vega, Deloitte tax partner; Austreberto Bañuelos, director of Bañuelos y Salazar Asesores y Promotores; and Alejandra Mier y Terán, Director of Commerce of Otay Mesa.

"One of the main concerns at this time is the containers that have not been able to be emptied, because there are other containers occupying the chassis, so the product that is entering the port of Long Beach is getting stuck," said Padilla Fitch.
And it is that this situation began as a result of the pandemic due to the lack of cargo transport operators, said the leader, which gave way to the congestion of the port, which is why a shortage of products from China is envisioned.
"I think there will be a lack of products in the stores, and in our case there is a great lack of raw material, as is the case of chips, which are used for many electronic products, so some companies have ordered to bring product by plane, which may solve the problem a bit, "he said.
Given this, the president of AIMO highlighted, Baja California has an opportunity to integrate more regional suppliers into the supply chain, as well as attract new supplier companies, since the industry has realized how difficult it is to have its supplies in the East .

"The fact is that the lack of products makes prices more expensive, but the market is expected to adjust by mid-2022," he stressed.
In this sense, Armando Padilla assured that the maquiladora industry in Tijuana continues with positive growth figures, due to international demand, mainly in sectors such as electronics, medical, aerospace and e-commerce.
Finally, he pointed out that companies continue from strength to strength with more than 25 thousand vacancies available, even more industrial parks are required to satisfy demand, which real estate developers have already noted as a niche of opportunity.
