According to the Ministry of Economy, the purpose of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) is to create a lasting link with long-term economic and business purposes by a foreign investor in the host country.
For Mexico, FDI represents the possibility of increasing job creation, increasing development and attracting foreign currency, stimulating competition, encouraging the transfer of new technologies, and boosting exports.
The head of SEDESU stressed that the investments that were expected for the year that is about to end were mainly focused on the automotive sector, due to the integration of these value chains and the internal market in the state.

For its part, the Data México platform reported that, during the period January to June 2021, Foreign Direct Investment in Querétaro was around 342 million dollars, distributed in 80% in reinvestment of profits, 11.5% in new investments and the remaining 8.5% on intercompany accounts.
Regarding the country of origin, the main ones would be Spain, the United States and Canada with 101 million dollars, 96.8 million dollars and 72.9 million dollars, respectively.
The first quarter of 2021 was an economic detonator for the entity, since five companies bet their capital in Queretaro lands.
The first to be announced was that of Grupo Santander, which announced at the end of 2020 the construction of a corporate center in the city, with an investment of more than 25 thousand million pesos and the first tower, of four that are contemplated, will be inaugurated at the end of this 2021.
Similarly, at the beginning of the year, the major medical insurance company SiSNova opened its regional offices in Querétaro. More than five million pesos were invested and 15 jobs were initially created.
In mid-February, the technology development company DSP Concepts, from Silicon Valley, announced that, by the end of this year, it would establish its new Advanced Design and Engineering Center in the city (where about 100 jobs will be created).
This company specializes in Audio Weaver and TalkTo technology. Its main clients are Tesla, Porsche, BMW, among others.

A week later, SEDESU announced the arrival of CloudHQ, a US Information Technology company, which would invest 14,942 million pesos and generate more than a thousand highly specialized jobs in the entity. In this company data centers are designed, built and operated.
Fifth, the Canadian company Bombardier Recreational Products (BRP) announced that it would invest in the expansion of its plant, located in the Querétaro Industrial Park, where motors and sports vehicles are manufactured and distributed worldwide.
That same month, Kerry Group, a leading Irish company in Taste & Nutrition, announced the installation in Querétaro of its second Global Business Services in the world, on the Empresalia corporate field, located on one of the city's main avenues.
During the month of March, the German firm ZF announced an investment of 1,279 million pesos to expand its plant located in the Bernardo Quintana Industrial Park, where it offers comprehensive product and software solutions for established vehicle manufacturers and suppliers.
