Construction branches seek to join forces to cover consumer increases
En Concreto | October 19, 2021 |

Some strategies that manufacturers, suppliers and builders follow in the face of the current reality, in which they must try to maintain prices for the remainder of the year, are to create the conditions to stop the increase in construction supplies such as steel and cement.

They estimate to achieve this through alliances, among them the search for new technologies and construction systems and thus somehow absorb the impact so that the price increases do not reach the final consumer.

In a panel organized by Grupo En Concreto, Jorge Guajardo, Vice President of Canadevi; Alejandro Rodrigo, Director of Institutional Relations at Novoceramic; and Oscar Montoya, general manager of San Cayetano.

The specialists stressed, however, that movement in costs for next year is not ruled out according to inflation, which is estimated to be between 6 and 7%, however, they insisted on absorbing the impact as much as possible.

They also agreed on the importance of reducing quality in the priority of not raising prices for the final consumer.

The chain is very affected and, in his case, what has had the most repercussions is the cost of natural gas and electricity, which has generated tension, as well as for products that import that prices are rising internationally.

However, at Novoceramic they agreed with customers and suppliers not to increase the prices set at the beginning of 2021, but it will be seen if they continue with this strategy next year, given that the estimated inflation is 6 to 7%.

Jorge Guajardo, agreed that the rise in international prices of materials and natural gas and electricity has affected the construction industry. Additionally, the paperwork also has an impact on what was pronounced because there is an effort on the part of the three levels of government to counteract it.

Oscar Montoya, recognized the increase in supplies such as steel, which he specified has had an increase of up to 120% between January 2020 and the same month of 2021, which went from 11 to 23 pesos per kilogram.

This complicated situation may affect the final price, so you must take advantage of new technologies and innovations in materials, to find a way out.
