During the first five months of the year in Querétaro, eight investment projects for the automotive industry have been completed, representing a capital of 9,491 million pesos, said the Secretary of Sustainable Development, Marco Antonio del Prete Tercero.

So far this year in the entity, eight of 24 projects in the automotive sector have been completed, which will generate 2,815 jobs, Del Prete said.

The automotive investments achieved in advance of 2023 are equivalent to 53.3% of the 15 projects that were completed in 2022 for this industry, according to the annual report of Sedesu. The auto parts industry is the main component of foreign direct investment in the manufacture of transport equipment.

From 1999 to 2022, the manufacture of transportation equipment has attracted foreign investments for 3,865.9 million dollars, 19% of the total state investment. However, of the total investment in transportation equipment, the manufacture of parts for motor vehicles concentrates 69.5%, followed by the manufacture of aerospace equipment with 25.4%, reports the Ministry of Economy.

Based on the accumulated from January to March 2023, the value of manufacturing for the manufacture of transportation equipment -which includes the automotive and aerospace industries- totaled 29,286 million pesos, representing an increase of 7.7% compared to the same period of 2022, according to statistics from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography.

"This sector is the one that contributes the most value to manufacturing in the state, with a participation of more than 25% of the total," he said. Only in March, he said, sales of the automotive sector totaled 10,000 million pesos, reflecting a growth of 4.8% in relation to the same month of the previous year.

The automotive industry is one of the main components of Queretaro's exports. In 2022, of the total value of the state's exports, 46.1% was contributed by the manufacture of transport equipment, a subsector that in turn achieved growth of 10% compared to the value of 2021.
