You are going to buy the food of the day at a grocery store, but since they do not have a bank terminal, you go to withdraw money in cash at a branch. You stand in front of the cashier, use your account data and in a few clicks you have the money ready. Minutes later, the transaction is recorded in your online banking and then will also appear on your monthly statement.
Although you can see all this data digitally, your bank probably has it stored in a physical place: in a data center. In these places, companies and governments keep the electronic and computer equipment in which large volumes of information necessary for their operations are concentrated.

The construction of these spaces is growing and goes hand in hand with the accelerated adoption of technology. Investments in the sector are expected to grow at an annual rate of 6.7% and reach 948,000 million dollars in 2030, according to Global Data. Mexico will take a slice of this cake, because it is the fourth country in Latin America with the largest number of data centers.
Within the country, Querétaro is the entity that has positioned itself as the preferred one to build them, according to the Newmark real estate agency.
One of the most recent investments in the state is from the Brazilian firm Odata, which made an investment of 79 million dollars in 2022, with the installation of an 8,260-square-meter building on a 52,250-square-meter plot of land.
The building is the largest data center in Mexico and the company's third outside its country of origin. What has been built corresponds only to the first stage, since it is planned that a total of 100 million dollars will be invested in a building of 30,400 square meters.

The Sustainable Development Secretariat of Querétaro has announced that at least 15 more data center projects are being considered and are in negotiations. The areas that have been sought for installation are El Marqués and Aeropuerto, where the new Bajío industrial parks have been developed.
The entity has become key due to its location, since it is close to the country's capital, and there is a low risk of occurrence of natural phenomena, in addition to having a Technology Cluster that contributes to the confidence of the sector.
