For the housing industry, 2021 is shaping up to be a year that will close with positive numbers in terms of sales.
Forecasts indicate that the sector will end the year with an increase of up to 4% in the number of new units placed.
According to Gonzalo Méndez Dávalos, president of the National Chamber of the Housing Development and Promotion Industry (Canadevi), 2021 will be a year with moderate growth.

However, he said, the element to be highlighted is that the sector continues with a positive step and on the way forward as an engine of national economic recovery.
In an interview, the developer representative assured that although the year that is about to end has been complex, the industry has demonstrated resilience.
Specifically, he commented that the developers expect to place up to 229 thousand new homes.
“We are going to have a moderately good closing given the conditions we have had this year. It seems to me that 2020 will be a little better. However, 2020 was a year that surprised us all, being a good year for housing placement, since comparing 2019 against 2020, we had only a decrease in placement of new housing of 8 percent.
"This year we are expecting to place around 228,000 or 229,000 new homes, that means a growth against the immediate previous year of between 3.5% to 4%", he commented.
Regarding the panorama by type of housing and regions, Gonzalo Méndez explained that medium and medium-residential housing has been the one with the best performance. In that sense, he mentioned, one of the great challenges is to boost the supply of housing in the social segment.

On the other hand, in terms of performance by zones, the President of Canadevi indicated that regions such as the north and the Center-Bajío have stood out, not only for keeping pace, but for achieving results above what was observed in 2020.
Towards the 2022 panorama, Gonzalo Méndez reiterated that one of the biggest challenges that the industry faces has to do with triggering the supply of social housing. However, he considered, for the year that is about to begin, the signals that give a guide to generating the conditions and developing this type of housing are not perceived.
On the subject, Gonzalo Méndez explained that in order to enter the challenge of producing social housing, a series of important changes must be generated. However, he said, one of the biggest challenges the industry presents has to do with rising construction costs.
