New LEED and EDGE certifications for 10% of FUNO's portfolio
Real Estate Market & Lifestyle | March 24, 2022 |

Fibra Uno (Funo) seeks to certify one million square meters of its gross leasable area, under the LEED (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design) and EDGE (Excellence in Design for Greater Efficiencies) seals, as part of its sustainability project.

Through these certifications, it is expected, in general terms, to achieve efficiencies in water and energy consumption, as well as reduce its environmental impact and carbon footprint.

“Any other real estate company in Mexico, the vast majority in their entire portfolio does not reach one million square meters in certifications. For us it represents an additional 10% of what we already have certified today. We are at a million and we are going to add another million”, highlighted Ana Karen Mora, Director of Sustainability and Foundation of Funo, in a recent conference.

Fibra Uno, the first diversified real estate investment trust to be listed on the local stock exchange, owns more than 10.8 million square meters of gross leasable area, including shopping centers, offices, industrial buildings, among others.

The director of the real estate trust announced that they are seeking EDGE certification for the shopping center, the office tower and the residential building in their emblematic Mitikah project, located south of Mexico City.

"We are looking for EDGE certification, which we will probably have by the end of this year," he said.

Ana Karen Mora explained that through their sustainability strategy towards 2030 they seek to reduce energy consumption in their buildings by 30%, water consumption by 20% and incorporate priority groups into their workforce (people with disabilities, community LGBT, single parents and indigenous communities), to reach a representativeness of 20 %.

Fibra Uno was recognized as “EDGE Champions” by the IFC (International Finance Corporation). This distinction is awarded to buildings that prove to be efficient in the use of resources in at least 20% in energy, water, and energy used in materials compared to conventional buildings.

Additionally, in the last quarter of 2021, Funo achieved the certification of two properties that represent 116,000 square meters: Parque Lerma and Torre Cuarzo, the latter having the LEED Platinum seal.
