Mexico established itself as the first commercial partner of the United States in April, in the exchange of products, without considering services, according to statistics released Tuesday by the Census Bureau.
Of all merchandise exports and imports made by the United States in the fourth month of the year, Mexico achieved a share of 14.7%, ahead of Canada (14.2%) and China (13.3 percent).
Cumulatively, during the January-April period, the countries were in the same positions: first Mexico (a share of 14.8%), second Canada (14.4%) and third China (14.0 percent).

Of the three leading countries in supplying merchandise to the US market, Mexico obtained the highest year-on-year increase in shipments to its northern neighbor, 103.4%, which totaled 32.177 million dollars.
The United States is the world's largest merchandise importer, has a free trade agreement with Mexico and Canada (T-MEC) and has been increasingly opening its foreign trade, while continuing a trade war with China.
In the accumulated of four months until April 2021, the United States imports of products totaled 862,832 million dollars, an expansion of 17.4% annually.
As part of that total, shipments from Mexico to the US market were $ 122.045 million, an increase of 18.2% year-on-year.
