This situation is a consequence of having excessively large external trade deficits with other regions of the world, such as Mexico with the Asian market, where freight rates have already increased fivefold as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.

“We need to demonstrate to the industry that freight from Asia has already increased fivefold, that cargo in the Pacific ports of the United States is stuck, because there is no capacity to respond quickly to a rebound in demand as strong as we had in post-Covid, '' said Ramírez de la O.

“Mexico in particular has a very strong deficit with Asia of products that could be manufactured in the nation and the proof of that is what we experienced during the pandemic, and in the pandemic when we cannot have access to basic products, such as appliances, automotive parts and let's not talk about electronics anymore," he mentioned.
