On February 23, 2022, the first stone of Metalsa's new Mexican Tier 1 plant located in Guanajuato was laid. It will be the only one of the Mexican Tier 1 automotive structures outside the North of the country and will be built especially to provide the chassis for the next generation of the Tacoma model assembled in Guanajuato and Baja California.
The investment of Grupo Proeza, owners of Metalsa, will reach 170 million dollars that will trigger the creation of 1,044 new direct jobs in Apaseo el Grande over a total area of 63 thousand 15 square meters, where it aims to care for the environment with technology emissions reduction.

As an on-site supplier, the new Metalsa plant will have a volume of up to 270,000 chassis per year for the Toyota Tacoma model made in Mexico, starting production in November 2023. This first project of the plant in Apaseo el Grande will have a duration of at least 8 years, and will also provide the chassis for the Toyota plant in Baja California.
José Luis Oliveros Usabiaga, mayor of Apaseo el Grande, welcomed the event stating that the three great values of Metalsa that coincide with Apaseo are hope, dynamism and humanism and highlighted the commitment to reduce polluting emissions.
For his part, the President of Toyota Motor Manufacturing Guanajuato, Juan Francisco García López, shared the emotion of this day and felt proud to have partners like Metalsa. They have been supplying the Tacoma chassis since 2010 in Baja California and have been exceptional suppliers, he said.
