Mattel will invest one billion pesos to expand its operation in Escobedo

Mattel Inc, reported that with its manufacturing plant in Montoi, located in the municipality of Escobedo, it will consolidate the operations of the plants in Tijuana, Baja California and Montreal, Canada, with an investment of 1,000 million pesos between 2020 and 2022.

Mattel Global President and CEO Ynon Kreiz said the plant has increased its workforce from 1,500 workers in 2019 to 3,600 employees.

"Montoi is now the largest manufacturing company of Mattel in the world", its extension is more than 200 thousand square meters, he mentioned. The company has a strategy of making focused investments that allow it to leverage its technological capacity, reduce costs and improve productivity.

From this plant its products are exported to 30 countries, so the expansion of the plant reaffirms its long-term presence in Mexico, where Montoi plays a central role in rethinking Mattel's global value chain, generating a key plant in America that supports our strategy to grow as a high-performance toy company, emphasized the manager.

He stressed that Nuevo León has a strategic position in the north of the country, has infrastructure and qualified labor. "This investment positions the state as a leading producer of the toy industry and we hope that it can attract many producers of raw materials to the region," said the manager.

For his part, Iván Rivas Rodríguez, state Secretary of Economy, indicated that around 5,000 jobs are generated in the state in this sector with a production value of 5,000 million pesos.

It is worth mentioning that the company has 10 6-axis robots used for assembly operations and 142 3-axis robots for molding operations. It also has an automated system to supply resin directly to the molding machine.
