Obras Expansión | September 28, 2021 |

2020 will be remembered as a very complex year, where construction registered a 5.7% decrease in sales revenue for the main companies in the sector, a 22% drop in operating income and 8.1% less in job creation.

But the panorama was not the same for all, since a few not only managed to remain stable, but also had double-digit growth, and in some cases, triple.

Let's move on to review what the three construction companies with the best results did differently and how they highlighted in this pandemic period.

The developer Grupo Ccima grew by 255.6% from 2019 to 2020, which positions the company as the one that accumulated the most revenue.

It is dedicated to the sale of land and the commercialization of industrial buildings, one of the segments that has had the best results during the last two years.

The flow is mainly due to the increase in e-commerce, which increases the demand for storage and logistics spaces together with the launch of the T-MEC and the arrival of more Asian investments to the northern border of Mexico.

This success in the market to which they are dedicated was added with a strategy of diversification, savings and reduction in the costs of their projects. That is, their goal was to sell at a lower cost, but to more customers.

The results caused that this year its goals were more ambitious and they turned to see the expansion.

During the second half of 2021, they are working on bringing their operations to Colorado, the first city with which they would begin to develop industrial warehouses for electronic commerce abroad.

In second place, Kainsa, established in Puebla, stands out, which grew by 94.9%, dedicated to building, infrastructure and real estate development, a portfolio of services that allowed it to remain active during the first year of the pandemic.

In addition, he participated in the construction of Covid-19 hospitals. One of the most recognized was La Margarita, made by Movil Technologies.

In just 60 days, a 17,000-square-meter, 40-bed hospital was built, in addition to EDGE certification for its sustainability measures.

Of interest: Reconversion of spaces is favored in the post-pandemic period

We closed with Fibra Storage, the trust that owns the U-Storage brand that exhibits a long history in the development of storage spaces and increased its income by 68.6% compared to what was reported in the previous ranking of the Obras Expansión magazine.

Its strategy to achieve this was based on providing facilities to attract customers. As of December 31 of that year, its portfolio consisted of 21 real estate assets for the rental of self-storage mini-warehouses in the State of Mexico and the capital of the country.

At the end of the fourth quarter of the year, the data presented to the Mexican Stock Exchange (BMV) indicate an occupancy of 75.3% in its spaces, an element that grew compared to 1Q20, when it stood at 67.5%.

This was driven by rate promotions, such as the first month of leasing the free spaces, which increased demand from tenants.

For those who were already renting the spaces, the same cost was maintained as in the last quarter of 2020.
