The building reflects moderate recovery in the first half of 2021
Real Estate Market & Lifestyle | August 27, 2021 |

The building during the first semester of 2021 has had a moderate recovery, with an increase of 9.7% in annual comparison, according to information from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi).

Its performance is very much in line with the construction industry as a whole, which rose 9.5% in the same period. This indicates that construction has once again been the engine of the industry, since the construction of civil engineering works reported a contraction of -1.2 percent in the same period.

Building depends practically exclusively on private investment, concentrating on the construction of housing, office buildings, shopping centers, industrial parks, hotels and hospitals, mainly.

Last year, the building was seriously affected because it was not considered an essential activity, except for the emblematic infrastructure works of the federal government, which is why it ended 2020 with a contraction of -16.6% throughout the year.

Therefore, despite its recovery from January to June of the current year, the building is far from returning to its level prior to the start of the health crisis due to the new Coronavirus.

The National Chamber of the Housing Development and Promotion Industry (Canadevi), the Mexican Chamber of the Construction Industry (CMIC) and the Association of Real Estate Developers (ADI) have sought a way to rescue investment in projects that stopped the last year because of the pandemic, with support from the government and financial institutions.

Likewise, they are fighting against the increase in construction supplies, especially those related to commodities such as steel.
