Kawasaki expands its automotive plant in Monterrey
Inmobiliare | November 10, 2021 |

The Japanese company, Kawasaki, announced plans to expand its manufacturing complex in the state of Nuevo León.

This new production space will be added to the engine plant in Monterrey and, in turn, will complement the work carried out at the facilities of its subsidiary in Nebraska.

The company's investment is around 265 million dollars and will be allocated to the "off-road" line, or off-road vehicles, motivated by the continuous increase in demand for this type of car in North America.

The complex of the Japanese company in the country, in addition to developing its emblematic engines, will take care of the assembly of the vehicles from the first quarter of 2023; generating around 550 new jobs.

The company settled in 2020 at the Interpuerto Monterrey with facilities that cover an area of more than 20 thousand m2, although it is still unknown what will be the surface that the new construction will add to the automotive plant.

As a result of the Agreement between Mexico, the United States and Canada (T-MEC), Nuevo León has positioned itself as an attractive destination for automotive investment due to its high level of technical personnel and industrial developments.

Nuevo León is located in the third position in the production of auto parts with 11.1%, only behind Coahuila with 17% and Chihuahua with 12.3%, according to data from the National Autoparts Industry (INA).

However, the pandemic has affected the sector where automobile manufacturing fell 22%, exports fell 21.9% and sales throughout the country fell 20.3%, according to figures from El Economista.

Another problem that has affected the production chain of the automotive industry since October 2020 is the lack of semiconductors or chips, essential parts for the manufacture of cars, which have disrupted this industry at the national level.

It is estimated that, derived from the above, 20% fewer vehicles will be produced in Monterrey.
