To meet the demand of suppliers for electric vehicles, the Monterrey-based company Katcon plans an expansion of its plant located in Santa Catarina to speed up the production of a new technology for this type of unit.
Specialized in manufacturing exhaust system components, thermal insulation and advanced materials for internal combustion units, the company is adapting a new line of business to remain a global supplier in the automotive sector, said Bernardo Turner, director of Katcon Mexico.
An internal combustion car has more than 3,000 parts, and an electric car has less than a thousand, so fewer and fewer internal combustion vehicles are being manufactured.

Katcon, seeing this, decided to diversify into a new manufacturing called Advanced Materials Division, mainly carbon fiber, glass, polymer plastic, paper, cardboard or different mixtures of materials, which makes them 30 or 40% lighter than traditional ones. steel or aluminum, Turner said.
The businessman commented that even this new technology seeks to adapt to internal combustion units, since, with lighter components, vehicles will have the ability to burn less fuel.

“This is going to be our big leap, we are very enthusiastic about getting the team, the machines, the people ready for this project start-up that is scheduled for the middle of the year, and from here we believe that this new business unit will be a of the new branches that are going to grow and keep Katcon as a leader for the next 30 years”, said the businessman.
