Jalisco prepares greater growth in 2023 of the technology industry

The electronic and high-tech industry installed in Jalisco exceeded all the projections set for this year, since it will close 2022 with higher-than-expected growth both in job creation and in attracting investment and exports.

According to the leaders in the West of the National Chamber of the Electronic Industry, Telecommunications and Information Technology (Canieti), the National Council of the Maquiladora and Export Manufacturing Industry (Index) and the Electronics Chain (Cadelec ), factors such as the trade war between China and the United States, the war between Russia and Ukraine, the increase in freight rates, the relocation of supply chains (nearshoring) and the Chip Act announced by the American Union, will allow the sector an even higher growth in 2023.

Until the third quarter of the year, the high technology industry captured more than 30% of the total Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) of the state and more than 52% of the entity's exports correspond to this industry.

The president of Index Occidente, Guillermo del Río, specified that at the beginning of the year the sector predicted the creation of 10,000 jobs, the attraction of 300 million dollars of investment and a growth in exports of between 8 and 10 percent.

However, he said, “in 2022 we far exceeded what we had projected. At the end of September we already had a growth of 18% and we believe that we are going to close very close to 20%, this means close to 40,000 new jobs; likewise, exports are growing close to 20 percent.”

Del Río Ochoa said that, based on a survey carried out among companies in the sector, 70% report that in 2023 "we will have numbers equal to or better than in 2022."
