Bajío, Mexico's leading point in automotive investments

During the first three quarters of 2024, investments in the automotive sector amounted to 13,582.49 million dollars, which represents a drop of 13.63% compared to the more than 15 million registered in 2023. This drop was foreseeable due to the election season and the slowdown in electrification globally.

Regarding the origin of these investments by number of projects, the main investing countries from January to September 2024 were China 18.1%, which surpassed Germany 14.8% in the third quarter, followed by the United States and Japan 10.3% each, however, Mexican capital projects surpassed foreign ones in number of projects, representing 20.6% of the accumulated total.

According to the automotive directory, the Bajío states together added 2,787.4 million dollars in investments, which is equivalent to 20.6% of the national total, in a more detailed breakdown; Querétaro stood out with 922 million dollars, followed by Guanajuato with 762.94 million, San Luis Potosí with 607 million and Aguascalientes with 495.1 million.

According to the projections of the automotive directory, investments are expected to add between 2 and 4 billion additional dollars by the end of the fourth quarter of 2024, this will depend largely on the investment promises of the Chinese OEM and possible additional announcements by some Western brands.
