Infonavit seeks to link homes with cities
Centro Urbano | August 16, 2021 |

Last week the governing bodies of Infonavit approved an adjustment to its regulation that establishes that the Institute will only finance homes that have schools, health centers, primary roads and public transport no more than 2.5 kilometers away.

That would be the maximum distance that someone would have to travel to get from their home to a school, a health center, a primary road or the point that allows them to board public transport.

This proposal leaves behind the Urban Containment Polygons model, which always generated enormous doubts and gaps, insofar as they were not properly aligned with municipal urban planning instruments.

Of course, it will be necessary to hope that the change of model contemplates the transition that allows the housing sector and local governments to make the necessary adjustments in their operation.

The adjustment made by Infonavit consists of a series of general rules in urban and mobility matters, applicable to all homes purchased with the support of a loan from the Institute.

Of interest: Housing becomes more expensive in 2021

This regulatory adjustment recognizes the link with all types of urban infrastructures and services, notably including mobility, as determining factors of an efficient Housing Policy.

This important measure should be interpreted as part of the process of modeling a Housing Policy that combines its social impact with those that have to do with the economic, environmental and urban agendas.
