Construction industry in Mexico had its best month with a recovery of 4.7%

According to the National Survey of Construction Companies (ENEC), of the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi), during March 2021, the construction industry in Mexico had its best month since the beginning of the pandemic, with a recovery 4.7% compared to the previous month.

Likewise, in this same period, the total employed personnel registered an increase of 1.2% and the hours worked advanced 2.9%; while the real average wages decreased 1.4 percent.

On the other hand, in its annual comparison, the real value of the production of construction companies showed a fall of 10%; with which the construction industry has accumulated 33 months of falls and with the lowest levels that have been registered since 2006.

Meanwhile, total employed personnel decreased 5.9% and hours worked decreased 2.7%; while the real average salaries were higher by 1.4%, in March of this year compared to the same month of 2020.

Finally, with regard to the work carried out by construction companies, the survey revealed that the Building subsector suffered a contraction of 13.9% in March 2021, compared to the same month in 2020. The construction of Civil Engineering Works reported a collapse of 2.6%; while the subsector of Specialized Works for Construction registered a fall of 11.2 percent.
