Santiago Morales Broc, director of GDC Developments, is an architect convinced that architecture and design must have a commitment to caring for the environment, recycling materials and contributing to equity with projects, especially housing, more inclusive and community-building.

Together with his partner, Cristian Aguilar Gutiérrez, he has founded BRAG Arquitectos, which had the distinction of Revelation of the Year 2020 of the XI BIIN, that is, the Ibero-American Design Biennial for his project Casa Roma 307 or Bajío 307, in the Roma neighborhood. From Mexico City.

The same project was awarded The Plan award in Italy. "The challenge is to create projects that harmonize with the environment and with a social vision that allows access to areas considered of greater added value," said Santiago Morales Broc.

During a coexistence with the media, the young architect reflects on how novel and at the same time complicated that Casa Roma 307 was, a housing complex with seven levels of apartments, where the challenge of preserving a house from 1910 considered listed was always set.

It had 25 native trees, but in addition to placing another 65 thousand plants and a cistern to capture rainwater and treated water.

 “I am also the director of the developer GDC Desarrollos, a firm of architects. The first thing we did was acquire the property that had a listed house and also had 25 trees. We decided to conserve the trees and preserve the house in its entirety despite the fact that only the façade was listed ”, he explained.

Casa Roma is completely residential and the cataloged house was preserved as a clubhouse, he explained: “It was not easy at all to change people's perception because sometimes it is thought that when doing a project, a construction, there is damage to the environment. But if in the construction process you recycle everything perfectly well, you send the waste where it should be, to recycled concrete, for example, and if you add more vegetation than there was, then you have what we did ”.

Finally, Morales Broc considered that there is a great responsibility for the environmental issue, in the same way with the issue of inequality: “what we are generating today with the new projects is always taking great care of the environment in the construction process, sending to recycle each one of those wastes that are left in a construction site.

The second issue is to take great care of the water issue for everything that is planted with vegetation in the buildings, because we have the objective that our buildings are very green ", concluded the director of GDC Developments.
