Tetra Pak confirmed the expansion of its Querétaro plant, where it will invest 500 million pesos to strengthen the packaging production capacity and to ensure the provision of safe food for Mexico, America, Europe and Asia.

The expansion will have an area of 800 square meters, consolidating this factory as the company's second largest worldwide, where new state-of-the-art equipment will be installed, such as a new line in the cutting area and to expand the lamination area, which will increase the production capacity from 11.3 billion to 12.8 billion containers.

This investment will help Tetra Pak in its proposal to develop a low-carbon circular economy, in alliance with collectors and three recyclers in the region.

The new space is expected to start operations in 2024, which will allow the company to optimize operating costs, thus avoiding the importation of materials from other countries, and prioritizing the Mexican production plant that distributes containers in the Mexican market, in North America, Central and South America, Europe and Asia.

In Mexico, Tetra Pak began operations in 1962, being the first country outside Europe where a packaging material plant was installed and operated, with the aim of supporting the National Institute for the Protection of Children (INPI), predecessor of the DIF.

This year 2022, the company celebrates 60 years of presence in the Mexican market and delivers food to all corners of the country through 1,000 employees.

It should be noted that, in addition to offering a full range of consumer food cartons, Tetra Pak has solutions and processing equipment for dairy, cheese, ice cream, beverages and ready meals; as well as technical service.
