Housing and household services were not so impacted by inflation in 2021, since consumer prices for home ownership, rental housing, domestic service and other household services increased 2.54% according to the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI).

The figures reported by the institute indicate that in previous years the increase in housing inflation was 2.91% in 2019 and 2.0% in 2020.

Considering the strong rebound in headline inflation for the year just ended (7.36%), consumer prices in the housing sector and services for the home performed modestly.

In particular, individual consumption by purpose linked to housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels, reported a 3.79% rebound in the entire year just ended.

In particular, housing income reported an increase of 2.66% in 2021, according to INEGI figures; own housing registered an increase of 2.38%.

However, there were other elements with greater pressure such as maintenance and home repair with an increase of 14.45%, which were determined by the adjustment observed by the materials for the conservation and repair of the home in that proportion.

In the case of water and services related to housing they increased 4.15% in the whole of last year, while electricity, gas and other fuels rebounded 7.41%.

Finally, furniture, articles for the home and for their conservation finished with an advance of 7.08%.
