Luis Alvarado Moreno, local president of the Mexican Association of Real Estate Professionals (AMPI) pointed out that San Luis Potosí (SLP) is the city with the most expensive land price for housing in the Bajío Zone.
A piece of land in this entity is up to 40% more expensive, compared to other states in the region, which makes the final cost of a home, as well as land and real estate, even more expensive.
At the national level, SLP is in ninth place in the national ranking of prices per square meter, according to the Single Housing Registry, caused by low competitiveness due to high prices.

Mexico City, Guerrero, Baja California, Quintana Roo, Baja California Sur or the State of Mexico are the states that are placed in the first positions.
The president of the local association pointed out that the metropolitan area of the state capital, located to the west, is the one with the highest demand.
“A piece of land here can cost more than 20,000 pesos per square meter. In cities like Puebla, the square meter located in its metropolitan area costs an average of 3,500 pesos,” Alvarado Moreno compared.
The real estate leader added that properties with the same characteristics are offered for up to 8 thousand pesos per square meter, in other entities.

"These factors prevent Potosinos from accessing a home or property in SLP," he said.
For its part, the National Chamber of the Housing Development and Promotion Industry (Canadevi), Julián Ramírez Abella, acknowledged that there is a housing deficit in the state coupled with the lack of projects in the region.
The business leader said that the housing sector is only generating 10% of all jobs.
Ramírez Abella considered that at least 10,000 homes per year should be built in SLP, which would generate 40,000 jobs for the industry.
