Two new concepts in Mercado Libre to increase your logistics network

Mercado Libre, the Internet sales site with the largest presence in Latin America, has announced a couple of initiatives with which it seeks to strengthen its logistics network for the delivery of products in Mexico.

Agencies network and Mercado Envíos Extra are the two initiatives that aim to expand the company's presence in Mexico, in order to reach all areas of the country with greater ease and speed, improving the user experience.

The Agency Network allows small businesses such as grocery stores, hardware stores, stationery stores, among others, to receive the packages purchased on their electronic platform and function as a fixed delivery point for end customers.

"The idea is to generate another source of additional income for commerce and improve the level of service for our users", that is, sellers and buyers, by being closer to them, according to David Geisen, general director of Mercado Libre in Mexico , in a virtual press conference.

The incorporation of these businesses will be supported by the platform of Kangu, a logistics services company recently acquired by Mercado Libre. With this initiative, it has added nearly a thousand establishments in 13 states of the country, and in the coming months it expects to reach 1,800 nationwide.

The offer of this marketplace is to pay up to 10 pesos per package received, along with the promise of having access to advertising and a greater influx in its establishments.

Mercado Envíos Extra, the second initiative focuses on the incorporation of independent distributors who wish to adhere and work under the standards of its platform for the delivery of packages to the homes of their clients.

“We already have more than 1,200 active distributors on the platform that operate in 6 cities: Mexico City, Guadalajara, Monterrey, León, Puebla and Pachuca. We want to be present in more than 30 cities and reach a greater number of distributors before El Buen Fin, ”said Omar Ramírez, director of logistics and transportation for Mercado Libre in Mexico, also present at the conference.

With this number of independent distributors that Mercado Libre currently adds, it already delivers 5% of its daily volume and expects to reach 15% by the end of this year.

The couriers are able to choose the days to work, the route and the number of hours. In this last line, Mercado Libre offers a maximum of 9 hours for a payment of 960 pesos, less taxes.

The growth that electronic commerce has presented in recent years, mainly in 2020 due to the effects on consumption brought about by the health crisis, has prompted Mercado Libre to develop a more robust logistics infrastructure in Mexico.

Just for 2021, this company plans to invest 1.1 billion dollars.

To date, it has 4 distribution centers (two in the State of Mexico, one in Monterrey and one in Guadalajara), an air fleet of 4 aircraft, 6 last-mile stations in Mexico City and an unspecified number of units. land vehicles.

In addition, it has the support of third-party logistics operators for the delivery of packages in the last mile.

During the second quarter of this year, Mercado Libre recorded revenues of $ 278 million in Mexico, with a 30% year-on-year increase in products sold.
