Diageo will invest 500 million dollars in Jalisco in its bet on Tequila

Diageo, the leading British giant of premium beverages in the world and in Mexico, makes an investment of 500 million dollars in its facilities in the towns of La Barca and Atotonilco, Jalisco.

The facilities to be built will be friendly to the environment, hand in hand with the commitment we have to create a more sustainable world.

The brand's products are sold in more than 180 countries around the world, with a wide portfolio of brands, including Tequila Don Julio, Johnnie Walker whiskeys, Buchanan’s and Smirnoff vodka, among others.

Diageo's investment is part of its plans to expand its operations focused on the tequila category in Mexico, specifically in the state of Jalisco.

The plan includes the expansion of facilities at its production site located in the municipality of Atotonilco El Alto, at a point known colloquially as “El Charcón”, and the construction of new facilities in the municipality of La Barca, Jalisco, which will bring more than 1000 new local jobs.

It is the largest investment that the corporate will make in America. Diageo has offices in Mexico City and Guadalajara, Jalisco, as well as two production sites located in the municipality of Atotonilco El Alto and agricultural bases within the denomination of origin.

Meanwhile, the governor of Jalisco thanked Diageo's confidence to invest in the state and more at a time that continues to be affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, which will help the local economy to reactivate.

Diageo produces and brings tequila from Mexico to the world. Currently the tequila category within Diageo represents eight percent of the company's global organic net sales.
