DHL Supply chain positions its presence in northern Mexico

The increase in demand for logistics services makes it necessary for companies to have a presence in northern Mexico, meeting the need to connect customers with the most important market in the world, the United States, which is why DHL Supply Chain reinforced its presence in that region. region with two new complexes in Baja California and Nuevo León.

During his visit to Mexico last July, Oscar de Bok, global CEO of DHL Supply Chain, announced that the company will invest 500 million euros for the period 2023-2028 in Latin America, aimed mainly at domestic infrastructure such as logistics centers. , automation, digitalization and decarbonization efforts.

On November 16, the division will inaugurate its GAIA II warehouse, in Monterrey, Nuevo León, a 50 thousand square meter (m2) complex that aims to meet the demand for nearshoring, serving industries such as manufacturing, consumer, automotive and retail, even IMEX services. With this, DHL Supply Chain adds 80 thousand m2 (30 thousand m2 in GAIA I) in that location at the foot of the Monterrey-Nuevo Laredo highway.

On the other hand, last month the division began the construction of its new warehouse in Tijuana, Baja California, an infrastructure of 20 thousand m2 that is expected to be ready by the first quarter of 2024 and that could expand up to 140 thousand m2, attending to the boom. in that region with all the semiconductor, medical device and aeronautics plants, as well as the e-commerce industry.

Although the group was very focused on the center of the country, it made the decision to turn to the north of the country and provide quality services for its clients, along with the inclusion of collaborative and pulling robots, said Alejandro Raya.

The executive explained that in both buildings the environmental requirements, solar panel technology, water recovery, efficient air conditioners, electric forklifts have been maintained, in addition to the fact that both operations are planned to be served with electric or hybrid transportation with the objectives in mind. of the group to zero emissions by 2050.

Alejandro Raya announced that as part of the aforementioned investment, it is expected that by 2024 the construction of a third complex in Nuevo León, GAIA III, will begin, so the division will have 130 thousand m2 covered with the three buildings.

Likewise, he commented that new investments are expected in Mexico City for the second half of 2024, in addition to others in Jalisco and potentially in Coahuila by 2025.
