For the third year, Mexico was placed in the top 5 of the countries with the highest growth in retail e-commerce, along with markets such as India, Brazil, Russia and Argentina.
According to the Mexican Association of Online Sales (AMVO), electronic commerce in the country reached a value of $401.3 billion pesos in 2021.
This represents a growth of 27% compared to the previous year, and exceeds the world average by more than 10 points; which demonstrates a market with strong expansion.
"Mexico is one of the countries with the greatest weight in retail e-commerce, surpassing developed markets such as France, Germany, Italy or Brazil," said a recent AMVO study.

These results show that the digital consumer still recognizes the benefits of online shopping beyond the price; such as home delivery, avoiding transfers to physical stores and having access to exclusive inventories.
Despite this, the Association assured that physical stores still have an essential role, either as showrooming or as a final purchase channel.
The accelerated growth of electronic commerce has brought new challenges for retail, especially in shipping methods, concentrating the most frequent concerns among users in times, non-compliance, customization and cost of delivery.
8 out of 10 Mexican digital buyers are satisfied during their digital transaction, where 87% prefer shipping and 13% opt for office or work delivery, figures indicated by AMVO at the end of 2021.

Continuing with the trend, 2022 is projected to be another year of growth and consolidation for e-commerce in Mexico, where omnichannel will play an even more relevant role and marketplaces will have an accelerated development.
Also, more SMEs - Small and Medium Enterprises - will be forced to join the system to increase their competitiveness, and will require training.
For their part, consumers will seek to join financial services, especially the base of the population pyramid, where the fintech sector will be a crucial piece.
