COSCO Shipping Lines revealed the importance that Mexico has for its maritime business. Last week, the Chinese shipping line inaugurated its new direct service (WSA5) between Asia and the Latin American country, with the aim of improving transportation times for the growing wave of imported goods from the Far East that has rebounded in the Mexican market.

The WSA5 rotation, with a weekly frequency, is made up of calls to the Asian ports of Busan (South Korea), Dalian, Qingdao, Shanghai, Ningbo (China) and Yokohama (Japan); while in Mexico it will touch the ports of Ensenada, Manzanillo and Lazaro Cardenas.

Official data indicate that from January to April 2024, Mexican ports have operated just over 2.9 million 20-foot containers in their import services, which means an increase of 17.7% compared to the same period in 2023.

The WSA5 from COSCO Shipping Lines joins the transpacific service offer between Asia and the west coast of Latin America (WSA) that the shipping line has operated for several years, given the increase in commercial exchanges between these regions of the world.
