China, Mexico and South Korea take advantage in the first 5 months of 2021 and

They rank high as providers of advanced technology to the United States, according to the Commerce Department.

China almost reaches 55 billion dollars of export of technological products to the United States, representing for them an increase of 29.9% year-on-year, even amid the trade tensions it exhibits with the United States.

The European Union as a whole achieves technology exports totaling 40.8 billion dollars and occupies second place, although it loses slightly ground, decreasing its total exports by 1.7%.

Mexico reaches the third position with 25.7 billion dollars of technology products exported to the United States, taking advantage of the decrease registered by the countries of the European Union, Japan and Canada.

Japan, South Korea, and Canada follow with $ 6.6, 6.2, and 4.9 billion, respectively. Both Japan and Canada decreased their participation by 7.5% and 9.5%, respectively, with respect to the same period of the previous year.

The global total of exports from the rest of the world to the United States of technology products registered from January to May 2021 the amount of 207.7 billion dollars, reflecting an increase of 12.8% compared to the same period in 2020.

Approximately 500 of 22,000 tariff classification codes are used to report trade in United States merchandise that is identified as "advanced technology."

These codes correspond to products whose technology comes from a recognized high-tech field, and represent state-of-the-art technology in that field and constitute a significant part of all items included in the selected classification code.

In 2020, the inflows of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) to Mexico were concentrated 41% in manufacturing. Of the total manufacturing, close to 50% corresponded to the automotive sector, which in turn had a 29% contraction due to the slowdown in world production.

On the other hand, the items of manufacture of computers and electronic components, and machinery and equipment registered both increases with respect to the previous year of 50% and 113%, respectively, in response to the peaks of demand in the United States.
