Ciudad Juárez will benefit from the boom in maquiladora industry

Due to the international economic reconfiguration generated by the Covid-19 pandemic, there will be an economic boom in the maquiladora industry on the border with the United States, and Ciudad Juárez will be prepared to make the most of it, said Cruz Pérez Cuellar.

The elected municipal president of that border town of Chihuahua commented that what will be sought is that the maquiladoras that intend to settle on the border do so in Ciudad Juárez and not go to other states.

Therefore, he mentioned that before taking office he has opened a dialogue with the National Council of the Maquiladora and Export Manufacturing Industry (Index), which represents the large multinational exporters that manufacture from Mexico to the world, in order to that this municipality redouble its attractiveness to the sector.

In an interview conducted during his visit to the newsroom of El Economista, he stated that he is already working on the integration of incentive packages for investment in order for Ciudad Juárez to regain competitiveness at the national and international level.

The senator with a license from Morena explained that, in the last 10 years, that municipality had been losing competitiveness in attracting and retaining investments in the maquiladora industry, compared to other regions of the country, particularly the Bajío.

He recalled that this industry supports the economy of that city, since it generates more than 60% of formal employment.

The elected municipal president commented that he had already met with the Director of Distribution of the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE), Guillermo Nevárez Elizondo, in order to solve, as soon as possible, the problem of electric power distribution that the city suffers and that it also affects industrial areas.

He explained that the important thing is that it is not a problem of power generation, but of distribution. What will be done is to improve the supply system, changing transformers and the necessary equipment.

In this case, he reported, the objective is that the problem be solved within a period of no more than six months, which in addition to complying with a demand of the population, will allow offering better investment conditions.
