The Mexican Institute for Competitiveness (Imco) published the results of the 2022 edition of its State Competitiveness Index (ICE), which allows understanding the capacity of entities to generate, attract and retain talent and investment.
In this edition, Mexico City is once again in first place on the list, while Guerrero remains the least competitive entity since 2010.
Querétaro dropped out of the first three places by moving from position three to four. This is because, among other things, the wage gap between women and men widened by six percentage points (13% vs. 19%).

"All states can be more competitive," considers the Imco. This study allows knowing those that have advanced the most and identifying the greatest challenges.
Regarding the issue of labor income, the gap between men and women was 15% and in less competitive states, such as Tlaxcala and Oaxaca, the gap is greater, 21 and 24%, respectively.
Baja California Sur and Nuevo León have higher labor incomes, with 13,141 and 11,125 pesos per month, respectively.
Jalisco stands out for being the most innovative state, since it developed 5.73 patents per 100,000 economically active people during 2021, while in fourteen other entities this figure is less than one.

Yucatan is the safest entity with fewer intentional homicides per 100,000 inhabitants (2.1), while Baja California had a rate of 72.5 crimes per 100,000 inhabitants in 2021.
Mexico City stands out in its internet connectivity, where three out of every four homes have access, while in Chiapas the figure is only one out of every five homes.
The ICE is made up of 72 indicators classified into 10 sub-indices, based on which the states are classified into six levels of competitiveness. The change in position in the index, or if they improve or fall, is explained by all the indicators and not by one in particular.
