Becton Dickinson (BD) will invest 56 million dollars for the construction of a new cap assembly plant for injection devices, in the Cuamatla Industrial Park, Cuautitlán Izcalli, State of Mexico, in addition to the 11 manufacturing plants that has in the country.
The investment also includes the installation of a new pre-fill syringe manufacturing line and advanced drug delivery systems. The project will generate 200 direct and 400 indirect jobs for builders, operators and professionals in the field.
The new unit of the medical technology company will have 4 thousand square meters, in a two-story building and will be completed in August 2022.

With this, the plant, which was inaugurated in 1982 and currently generates 2,700 direct jobs, will reach more than 130 thousand square meters of construction.
Julio Duclos, vice president and general director of Mexico, Caribbean and Central America of BD, mentioned that the syringes will be used for a new pneumococcal vaccine recently approved by the Food And Drugs Administration (FDA) for adults and the elderly.
The investment is part of a four-year global plan in which BD will invest 1.2 billion dollars in different countries, with the intention of expanding and updating its manufacturing capacity and technology for pre-filled syringes and administration systems for advanced drugs, vaccines. and new drugs.
The expansion is a strategic decision to increase the plant's capacity by 11%, provide agility in the production of glass syringes based on the requirements of the pharmaceutical industry and seeks to satisfy the growing demand for vaccines worldwide.

320 million additional units per year will be produced in addition to the current capacity of the Cuautitlán Izcalli plant, so the participation in the global glass syringe business will increase by 10%, according to the company.
Currently, Becton Dickinson produces 3.1 billion disposable and pre-filled syringes in more than five plants around the world, of which the Mexican headquarters contributes 52% to the global market for syringes of this type, making it the largest plant in the systems business. pharmacists in the world.
