Appetite for Tijuana estimates industrial investments of 450 million dollars
Mexico Industry | February 16, 2022 |

In 2022, investments of more than 450 million dollars are expected in Tijuana to build about 595 thousand square meters for industrial spaces.

Carlos Jaramillo Silva, president of Economic and Industrial Development of Tijuana (Deitac), presented on behalf of the organization the Report on the Absorption of Industrial Spaces and the projection of availability for 2022.

He pointed out that the demand reached a historical figure of 715 thousand square meters of demand, more than double what was registered in 2020.

It was noted that for this year, 595 thousand square meters have already been agreed by the industrial developers represented by Deitac, although this figure could exceed 700 thousand square meters, just as it did in 2021.

"At the moment we have an availability of less than 1%, that is why the developers will be releasing projects in the city and those 595 thousand square meters will be at least," he assured.

Jaramillo Silva added that at least two new industrial parks will be built, while the existing ones will be carried out on their land reserves.

In this way, the leader stressed, it will be possible to accommodate between 60 and 70 new industrial operations, of which 70% correspond to expansions of already established companies.

"We believe that later there will be information on new industrial parks, whose pattern is manifested on Boulevard 2000 and the free highway to Tecate, which are the most active submarkets," he commented.

In that sense, Jaramillo said that there are challenges in issues such as energy, mobility and affordable housing for the purpose of making the city attractive.

Finally, the representatives highlighted that there is a very important coordination at the binational level both with organizations from San Diego and with the Government of Baja California, through an agenda focused on economic promotion, mainly with the California market, which is very relevant since more than 60% of the projects come from the United States.
