Agreements that strengthen the investment of the BMW Group in SLP

After the announcement of the investment of 800 million euros by the BMW Group, Harald Gottsche, president and CEO of the San Luis Potosí plant, specified that an agenda was agreed with the federal and state governments to begin manufacturing lithium batteries and electric cars.

He also declared that the German firm made commitments with both governments for its realization. In this sense, education, infrastructure, permits to produce renewable energy and respect for the agreements of the Treaty between Mexico, the United States and Canada (TMEC) were some of the incentives given to the German plant.

Permits for the production of renewable energies will be facilitated by the Federal Government, a program will be promoted to accelerate the transition to electric mobility in the country, and the current TMEC agreements will be respected in the future.

With regard to the State Government, support for the renewable energy production process is maintained and commitments are signed to improve mobility infrastructure in industrial parks. In addition to this, it was established to integrate the English language into public education in the state.

Now, in addition to all this, the state administration will make the purchase from the industrial park of an estimated 20 to 30 additional hectares, to later make the donation and complete the construction project of the warehouse where the high voltage batteries will be manufactured.

Finally, regarding production, the corporation plans to have its first fleet of fully electric vehicles with lithium batteries from Australia and Argentina by 2027.
