65.4% of the home acquired in Mexico was through own resources

The main source of financing for acquiring a home in Mexico is own resources, well above other sources. In this way, 65.4 out of every 100 homes were acquired in 2020, while the use of Infonavit credits represented only 18% of the total.

The acquisition with loans from private institutions reached 9.1%, a drop of 2.4 percentage points compared to 2014.

The acquisition of housing with loans from relatives, friends or other people was 4.6%, while the rest of the financing sources, such as government subsidies, loans from Fovissste or other public institutions, was overall 7.3%.

The data from the Inegi National Housing Survey 2020 (Envi 2020) draws attention to the fact that the public subsidy as a source of financing advanced 1.8 percentage points, to 2.8%.
