43.3% of FDI in Querétaro corresponds to manufacturing

During 1Q 2022, the state's manufacturing industry received 219.6 million dollars of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), remaining the main recipient of foreign capital, representing 43.3% of the total FDI received by the entity in that period (506.6 million dollars), records from the Ministry of Economy (SE) stand out.

Manufacturing investment in the first quarter of the year represents an increase of 203.6% in relation to the 72.3 million dollars that manufacturing captured in the same period of 2021; however, it is still 47.9% below the 422 million it received for this concept in the first quarter of 2020, before the Covid-19 pandemic.

Within the manufacturing FDI that the state received in January-March 2022, the plastic and rubber industry was the main support since it added 121.3 million dollars, 23.9% of the total FDI that the state received.

In second and third place are the chemical and food industries, with 61.3 and 51.2 million dollars, which represent 12.1% and 10.1% of total FDI in the state, respectively.

However, unlike other periods, the manufacture of transportation equipment did not add to manufacturing investment; on the contrary, it reported the withdrawal of 3.6 million dollars in the first quarter of 2022. In contrast, a year ago, in the first quarter of 2021, the investment for transportation equipment totaled 103.8 million dollars.

After manufacturing, the second branch with the highest injection of foreign investment was financial and insurance services with 148.8 million dollars in 1Q 2022, 29.4% of total state FDI; investment that was mainly fed by the sub sector of credit intermediation and non-stock financial institutions.

Commerce was the third sector with the highest FDI attraction, contributing 50.6 million dollars, 10% of the total FDI received by the state in that period.

In the first quarter of the year, Querétaro captured 506.6 million dollars of Foreign Direct Investment; mainly due to reinvestment of profits, which contributed 56.6% (286.6 million), due to accounts between companies added 173 million dollars (34.2%) and due to new investments only 47 million dollars (9.3%).

With this figure, the entity accumulated 19,627.3 million dollars of foreign investment from 1999 to the first quarter of 2022.

Historically, the manufacturing industry has remained the main support for FDI, accumulating 11,214.9 million dollars, from 1999 to March 2022, that is, 57.1% of the total FDI received by the state.
