2.1 million Mexican households have a room, according to the 2020 Census

According to the 2020 Population and Housing Census, of the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI), Mexico has a total of 35 million 219 thousand 141 households. At the national level, Mexican households are made up of 3.6 people.

Of the national total 2 million 185 thousand 377 families that live in a room. This amount represents an increase of 5.2% based on the 2 million 77 thousand 111 that were registered in 2010.

On the other hand, 5 million 346 thousand 89 families are accommodated in houses composed of two rooms, reflecting a growth of 13.7% compared to the last decade, being in 2020 15.3% of the Mexican population.

Now, the families that inhabit three-room houses amount to 9 million 464 thousand 801. This means an increase of 43% compared to the previous census and represents 27.2% of the total population.

In 2020 there were 8 million 500 thousand 471 houses with four bedrooms, which shows a growth since 2010 of 22.54%. This is equivalent to 24.4% of households in Mexico.

Families living in a five-bedroom home increased 19.2% in the last decade, giving a total of 5 million 148 thousand 472 houses. This group represents 14.8% of the general population.

Finally, homes with six or more rooms rose 12.2% in these ten years, to a total of 4 million 899 thousand 920, which is about 12% of the total population.

Of the total number of homes, 3.5% have dirt floors.
